New England Patriots workout Calgary WR Eric Rogers

This season, the New England Patriots have dealt with numerous injuries to the wide receiver position, which has costed them a couple of games. With that being said, the team worked out a couple of wide receivers on Thursday and Friday including the CFL’s leading receiver.

According to Mike Reiss of ESPN.com, the Patriots worked out Calgary Stampeders wide receiver Eric Rogers on Friday.

Rogers and the Stampeders’ season ended a few weeks ago, as they lost in the West final 45-31 to the eventual Grey Cup champions, the Edmonton Eskimos. This season, Rogers had a breakout year with 87 receptions for 1,448 receiving yards and 10 touchdowns.  It is not surprising that the second year wide receiver is receiving interest from the NFL as he had six games of 100 plus receiving yards this season.

This would not be the first time that a big time CFL leading receiver would garner interest from the NFL. Last season, former Montreal Alouettes wide receiver Duron Carter signed with the Indianapolis Colts after his 2014 campaign, where he had 75 receptions for 1,030 receiving yards and seven touchdowns.

In 2013, Rogers was undrafted free agent out of Division III California Lutheran trying to latch on with the Dallas Cowboys. After his short stint in the NFL, Rogers spent time in the Arena Football League with the Portland Thunder.

Do not be surprised if Rogers continues to gain more interest around the NFL because he is an excellent wide receiver, who can flat out catch the football.
